BEVERLY, Mass. – The extended family of David Edmund Gifford announces his unexpected death July 30, 2013, in Beverly, Mass. David was born Sept. 30, 1949, in Concord, N.H., the son of the late Edmund C. Gifford and Barbara A. (Cushing) of Beverly, Mass.
He grew up in Beverly, Mass., where he attended St. John’s School and was a graduate of Beverly High School in 1967.
He is survived by his sister, Dian Gifford, of Westport, Mass.; his aunt, Phyllis Stuart of Concord, N.H.; his uncle, Robert Gifford and aunt, Eveleana Gifford, both of Concord, N.H.; and aunt, Helen Knight of Bradford, N.H.; and his life friends, Michael and Ann Foley; and special friends, Cat and Sis of Gloucester, Mass.; as well as many cousins.
He lived in Stockton Springs for many years and was the former husband of Annmarie Hawryluk. David was a poet, musician, mountaineer, avid waterman and natural historian who knew the name and provenance of every animal, bird, plant, and rock he encountered. His special genius for friendship outlives him.
David’s life was celebrated on Aug. 31, 2013, at the First Parish Unitarian Church in Beverly, Mass.
