BREWER – Betty Ann (Coombs) Royal, 80, went home to be with her Lord and Savior with her Feb. 13, 2014, in Brewer, with her family at her side. She was born April 30, 1933, in Mattawamkeag, the daughter of Bernard and Anna (Bell) Coombs.
Betty attended Brewer schools and enjoyed playing basketball. She worked as a waitress around the Bangor area including Aunt Molly’s, Miller’s Restaurant, Peter’s Restaurant and at the Bangor House.
Surviving are six children, Morelle Strout and her husband, Steve, of Bangor, Wayne Smith of Old Orchard Beach, Stephen Smith and his wife, Brenda, of Bangor, Dan Smith of Bucksport, David Smith and his wife, Michelle, of Bangor, and April Norris and her husband, Allan, of Bangor; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one sister, Blanche Hodge and her husband, Ken, of Bangor; one brother, Dan Coombs and his wife, Donna, of Houston; a sister-in-law, Mary Coombs of Old Town; and nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Edmund Royal; two sons, Kevin Smith, and Tom Witherly; and by one brother, Raymond Coombs.
Family and friends may visit 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer, where a service honoring Betty’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, as the visitation concludes. Pastor Ronald Morris of Glad Tidings Church, Bangor, will preside and burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer in the spring.
