Four Class A boys basketball quarterfinals postponed until Monday

AUGUSTA, Maine — The Saturday evening sessions of the Eastern Maine Class A boys basketball tournament at the Augusta Civic Center and the Western Maine Class A boys basketball tournament at the Portland Expo were postponed due to a storm, according to the Maine Principals’ Association.

Eastern Maine games featuring No. 5 Edward Little of Auburn against No. 4 Messalonskee of Oakland and No. 1 Hampden Academy against No. 8 Lewiston have been rescheduled for Monday. Those games originally were scheduled for 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. opening tip-offs.

The Western Maine games featuring No. 3 Bonny Eagle against No. 6 Sanford and No. 2 Falmouth against No. 7 Cheverus have been rescheduled for Monday at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. respectively.

Saturday’s first Eastern A boys session at the Augusta Civic Center were played as scheduled with No. 6 Oxford Hills beating Bangor 44-41 and No. 2 Brunswick defeating No. Mount Ararat 72-54.

The Messalonskee-Edward Little game now will be played at 8:30 a.m. Monday, followed by two originally scheduled Western Maine Class D girls quarterfinals matching No. 3 Searsport at No. 6 Richmond at 10 a.m. and No. 2 Rangeley against No. 7 Valley of Bingham at 11:30 a.m.

The Hampden-Lewiston game is now set for 1 p.m. Monday, followed by four Western Maine Class C boys quarterfinals — No. 3 Waynflete of Portland against No. 6 Monmouth Academy at 2:30 p.m., No. 2 Boothbay against No. 7 Hall-Dale of Farmingdale at 4, No. 4 Winthrop against No. 5 Maranacook of Readfield at 7 p.m. and No. 1 Dirigo of Dixfield against No. 8 Wiscasset at 8:30.

Pre-sold tickets for the postponed Class A games will be honored Monday.
