LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Matthew Small McNeilly Jr., 84, passed away Jan. 30, 2014. He was born March 29, 1929, in Boston, to the late Matthew and Doris McNeilly.
“Matt” graduated from Brookline High School in 1947 and received a BS in Engineering from the University of Maine in 1951. Matt was married to his wife, Carole McNeilly. They were married Nov. 10, 1970, in Texas and resided in the Houston area before relocating to Colorado in 1972 where Matt fell in love with hunting and the Rocky Mountains.
Along with Carole, Matt is survived by his sons, Matt McNeilly, of Craig, Colo., Jeff McNeilly of Lakewood, Colo., and Scott McNeilly of Lakewood, Colo.; and ten grandchildren. He was predeceased by sons, Kenneth and Gregory from a previous marriage. Matt is also survived by his brother, Alvin McNeilly of Owls Head; and sister, Jacqueline Freese of Naples, Fla.
Matt was a very kind hearted person who enjoyed hunting, being with his family and indulging in the occasional scotch and water. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. To honor Matt’s request there will not be any services, instead his ashes will be spread in the Rocky Mountains in the area where he used to hunt and in Ash Point, where he can be with the rest of his family.
