PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Police have charged two Aroostook County males in connection with a shoplifting incident this week at Walmart, according to Presque Isle Police Chief Matthew Irwin.

Charged with felony theft are Nathan Jones, 25, of Caribou and a 16-year-old juvenile male, also of Caribou.

On Sunday evening loss prevention specialists from the Presque Isle Walmart reported having observed Jones and the teen leaving the store with several items — including a flat-screen television — without paying for them, Irwin said Thursday morning.

Presque Isle police officers detained the two in the parking lot and recovered the unpaid-for items, which carried a total value of just over $1,200, Irwin said.

Jones, who is out on bail, is scheduled to appear in Superior Court on March 22. The teen was released into the custody of his mother and will appear in juvenile court on May 1.

Irwin encourages anyone witnessing incidents of shoplifting to contact local law enforcement or the store’s loss prevention staff.
