WARREN, Maine — A 19-year-old Warren man is free on bail after being arrested last week, accused of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl he was baby-sitting.

Nicholas Guernsey was arrested Feb. 4 and charged with Class A unlawful sexual contact. He was released that day on $10,000 unsecured bail.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the parents of the girl on Feb. 2, according to the affidavit filed by Detective Justin Twitchell.

Upon investigating, Twitchell said he learned that Guernsey had baby-sat the couple’s four children on Feb. 2. When the parents returned home they noticed that the 5-year-old had taken a bath and they later observed that her privates were red.

The girl told the detective that Guernsey had inserted his finger inside her after she had the bath.

Guernsey denied the allegation but said maybe he accidentally touched her there when he was drying her off.
