HOWLAND, Maine — The Calais Blue Devils used a balanced scoring attack to beat the Orono Red Riots 46-36 to capture the Penobscot Valley Conference Class C girls basketball title Monday night at Penobscot Valley High School.
Madison McVicar and Kaylee Johnson each scored nine points to help the Blue Devils win the title in their first year in the league.
Orono was paced by Elea Kass with 12 points.
Calais, the No. 1-ranked team in East C, has received a bye through the prelim round and will play a quarterfinal game at 3:35 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, while the second-seeded Red Riots will also receive a bye before playing in a quarterfinal at 11:05 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

At PVHS in Howland on Saturday, the Minutemen of Millinocket surged to a 12-point halftime lead to beat the Patriots and capture the PVC Class D title.
Kacey McVey paced Stearns of Millinocket with 18 points and Mark Mornault chipped in with 12.
Seth Pearson led Bangor Christian with 12 points and Ben Miller netted eight.
Stearns and Bangor Christian will each be playing East D prelims Tuesday as the No. 9 Minutemen will travel to Van Buren to take on the No. 8 Crusaders at 6 p.m. while the No. 10 Patriots will visit Woodland for a 5:30 p.m. contest against the No. 7 Dragons.
