MONROE, Maine — A husband and wife from Brooks were taken to a Bangor hospital Monday morning after their Geo Tracker rolled over on Route 139, police said.

Wayne Curtis, 25, and his 28-year old wife, Crystal, were headed east when Wayne lost control on the slick road, according to Deputy Matt Curtis of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.

Neither victim was wearing a seat belt, Curtis said, and Crystal was ejected from the vehicle while Wayne was pinned underneath.

The crash was reported at 7:45 a.m., the deputy said.

Road conditions were a major factor in the accident, according to Curtis, who added the couple’s injuries may have been less severe had they been wearing seat belts.

Wayne Curtis’ injuries are considered serious and Crystal’s aren’t considered life-threatening, the deputy said. Both were taken by Brooks ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center.

The vehicle was demolished in the accident, which remains under investigation.
