BANGOR – George F. Parent, 95, husband of Anita (Brilliant) Parent, died Feb. 7, 2014, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Dec. 23, 1918, in Brewer, the son of Frank and Ella (Verow) Parent.
George grew up in Brewer and was a graduate of Brewer High School in 1935. He worked at Eastern Fine Paper in Brewer for a few years before serving with the U.S. Army during World War II. George worked for Darlings Auto Sales and Auto Parts from 1945 to 1984 as the company treasurer. He was a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church. In recent years he enjoyed assembling 3-D puzzles.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 68 years of Bangor are five children, Terrence Parent and his wife, Joan, of Scarborough, Donald Parent of Rathdrum, Idaho, Sr. Barbara Parent, RSM of South Portland, Gregory Parent and his wife, Linda, of Corinth and Elaine Tremble and her husband, Michael, of Holden; eight grandchildren, Eric, Jannette, Kim, Nicholas, and Hilary Parent, Scott, Anthony and Andrew Tremble; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and four sisters, Ruth Parent, Marjorie Welch, Victoria Cassidy, and Christina Viricel.
Family and friends may visit 4 -7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bangor. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor.
