MOXIE GORE TOWNSHIP, Maine — A man on the state’s sex offender registry is facing multiple charges after an alleged assault on a juvenile, police said.
Timothy Hayes, 49, of Prentiss Plantation was arrested on Jan. 30 after a complaint that was received on Jan. 6, according to Chief Deputy Dale Lancaster of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.
The alleged assaults on an 8-year-old boy took place in August and September of last year, according to Lancaster.
Detective Jeremy Leal, along with the Somerset County district attorney’s office, launched an investigation after the complaint was received, and at the conclusion, Hayes was charged with gross sexual assault, unlawful sexual contact, both Class A felonies, and prohibited contact with a person under the age of 14.
Hayes, who has convictions for gross sexual misconduct and unlawful sexual contact on his record, is being held at the Somerset County Jail.
