TOWNSHIP 8, RANGE 14, Maine — A 66-year-old Cumberland man escaped serious injury in a rollover accident Tuesday evening on Route 11 in an unorganized territory of Aroostook County.

The crash took place just after 6 p.m. as Bernard Michaud was driving north in his 2008 Ford Focus, State Police Sgt. Chad Fuller said in a written statement Wednesday.

Michaud fell asleep behind the wheel and lost control of the vehicle, according to Fuller. The car drifted off the roadway and rolled once onto its roof before stopping.

Michaud was wearing his seatbelt and was trapped in the vehicle for a short time. He sustained minor injuries but did not require medical care, the sergeant reported.

The vehicle sustained significant damage. Ashland and Masardis first responders assisted at the scene as well as officers with the Ashland Police Department.

Trooper Jacob Ferland assisted at the scene.
