Police: Man arrested for being at Bangor gentlemen’s club returns immediately after bail release

BANGOR, Maine — A local man was arrested twice in two hours Saturday after he returned to Diamond’s Gentleman’s Club after bailing out of jail following his first arrest, police said.

Ryan Sawyer, 25, of Glenburn had been issued a one-year trespass notice from the club after an incident in 2013, according to Bangor police Sgt. Cathy Rumsey.

Shortly after noon on Saturday, police received a call from the club that Sawyer was there, and after his trespass notice was verified, he was arrested and charged with criminal trespass.

After his bail release from Penobscot County Jail, Sawyer apparently went back to the club, and police received another call at 2:30 p.m., Rumsey said.

Officers Doug Smith and Tim Wheelden found Sawyer sitting in the club, where he refused to get up from his chair despite multiple warnings, the sergeant said.

The officers physically escorted Sawyer out of the club and arrested him again on another count of criminal trespass, as well as refusing to submit to arrest and violating conditions of release, the sergeant said.

One of Sawyer’s bail conditions after he was released the first time was that he not return to the club.
