Game notes: The Black Bears seek their third win in a row but face a daunting challenge against the second-place Catamounts. UMaine beat UMBC 83-80 on Saturday, while Vermont downed Albany 55-45 for its third straight victory. The Catamounts are 7-2 at home. UMaine could get nothing going offensively in the first meeting. UVM is giving up only 47.8 ppg in AE play. UMaine has surrendered 76.2 ppg. UMaine’s Dimitry Akanda-Coronel (13.2 ppg, 3.5 rpg) is sitting out the last of a three-game suspension for undisclosed violations of university policy.
