LITTLE DEER ISLE – Susan Emily Brady passed away at home Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Portland, the oldest daughter of Mary and William Hefler. She graduated from Portland High School in 1958 and Westbrook College in 1960 with an Associate’s Degree in Medical Technology. She moved to the Upper Valley of New Hampshire and began her 35-year career as a laboratory technician at Dartmouth Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Lebanon.
In 2002 she moved to Little Deer with her husband, Philip. During her retirement, she enjoyed volunteering with the American Red Cross and in her community.
She is survived by her loving husband, Philip; her sister, Deborah Laird; her brother, William Hefler; her daughters, Ann Gagner and Catherine Gagner; stepchildren, Melanie Brady Elliot, Phelan Brady, and Kathleen Brady; and her former husband, Gordon Gagner. Susan also leaves behind grandchildren who will miss visits with Granma Susan. She was predeceased by her son, Andrew Gagner in 2010.
Susan’s family would like to thank Hancock County Hospice for their tireless and loving care of Susan in her final days.
A service will be held 10 a.m. Feb. 15, at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Stonington, and burial will follow in the spring so Susan can join her parents at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Catholic Charities of Maine.
