Harvest Moon Deli to set up shop in downtown Bangor

BANGOR, Maine — In a few months, downtown Bangor will have another new lunch option, courtesy of an expanding Orono sandwich shop.

Keith Manaker, owner of Harvest Moon Deli, announced Monday he will expand his restaurant to 72 Columbia St., the former site of Montes International Catering.

Montes closed in 2012 after the owners started a bakery inside Seasons Grille and Lounge.

Harvest Moon opened its Orono restaurant on Mill Street in 2007, Manaker said, and it has become a lunchtime staple for downtown Orono residents, University of Maine students and professors.

The restaurant serves sandwiches and paninis with a celebrity theme. Manaker expects that he should be able to prepare the new Bangor location for opening within the next three months and the offerings will be similar. He said he’s considering adding a salad bar, something the Orono restaurant doesn’t have because of space constraints.

Manaker said he recently gave up his ownership share in The Family Dog, another downtown Orono eatery, which gave him the opportunity to focus on his first venture and expand it into Bangor.

He said the former Montes location is in good shape and primarily needs aesthetic changes to give it the same feel as the Orono Harvest Moon.

The deli likely will be open during lunch hours, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and will do catering and events, according to Manaker.

To find out when the Bangor location will be ready, Manaker suggested people keep an eye on the Harvest Moon Deli Facebook page.
