BROOKSVILLE – Helen Jane Bowden Clifford passed away on Jan. 29, 2014, in Blue Hill. She was born Feb. 8, 1939, in Brooksville, the daughter of Iva Orcutt Bowden and Wallace Bowden, always going by her middle name Jane.
Jane graduated from Brooksville High and went on to marry Percy Delmere Clifford on Oct. 11, 1957. Together they raised five children. Jane loved going on picnics down to Powers Beach, watching her own children, then her grandchildren learn to swim and cheering them on, making sandcastles and skipping rocks was part of her summer daily life. She loved a good yard sale and flea market. Winter months she enjoyed watching the kids sledding and making snowmen. In the evenings she either painted or knitted while listening to the radio.
Jane was predeceased by her husband, Percy Delmere Clifford; her parents, Iva and Wallace Bowden; as well as her siblings, Mabel Cousins, Jo Blake, and Richard Bowden, along with their spouses. Jane is survived by all of her children, Cindy and husband, Philip Friend, Joel Clifford and wife ,Tracy, Aaron Clifford, Daron “Sparky” Clifford and wife, Carrie, and Oakly Clifford; brother-in-law, Earl Clifford and wife, Marie; sister-in-law, Audrey Bowden; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and one great-grandchild on the way; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Clara Gray, Mini Branson, Andrea Devereux, Katherine Clifford and Scott Keegstra, whom she thought of as another son.
A celebration of life will be held noon Feb. 7, at the Union Church on Cape Rosier, followed by a gathering after at the Brooksville Town House. In lieu of flowers, Jane requested memorial donations be made to either the Rainbow Grange, 1046 Cape Rosier Road, Harborside, ME 04642; or Hancock County Homecare/Hospice, Ellsworth, ME 04605.
