BANGOR, Maine — A local man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after a reported assault on his girlfriend, police said.

Michael Clowes, 45, has no prior domestic violence assault convictions on his record, according to Bangor police Sgt. Paul Kennison.

Police went to a residence shortly after 5 p.m. when an argument between Clowes and his girlfriend grew violent, the sergeant said.

No weapons were involved and the woman was not seriously injured, Kennison said.

Clowes was brought to Penobscot County Jail, where he remained Friday morning.
