AUGUSTA – Rev. Roland M. Lord, 96, of Augusta, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014 at Patriot Place at Togus. He was born in Portland, Sept. 20, 1917, the son of Wilfred and Nancy Millett Lord.
He graduated from Woodstock High School and Nyack Missionary Institute in New York. He served his country in the U.S. Army. His mission was reopening closed churches then moving on in Dixfield, E. Dixfield, W. Sumner, N. Paris, Welchville, Gray, Ellsworth, W. Tremont and Cherryfield. He was a member of the Rural Home Missionary Association. He was also a member of American Legion, Jackson Silver Post.
He is survived by his son, Roy of Belgrade; his sister, Hope Lamb of Florida; 3 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth, Aug. 11, 2013; a son, Dale; and a brother, Wayne. His family wishes to thank the staff at the Patriot Place at Togus for the wonderful care he received.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2 at the Bryant Pond Baptist Church. Interment will be in the spring at Abbotts Mills Cemetery in Rumford.
