Janet ‘Jann’ Mattson

BUCKSPORT – Janet “Jann” Mattson, 79, passed away Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014. She was born May 2, 1934, in Whiteplains, N.Y., the daughter of Joseph and Helen (Bergmann) Platt.

Jann was a great mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a deep faith in God and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. She had a passion for music and loved attending the Acadia Choral Society concerts twice a year. Jann was a published author who wrote poetry. She loved chocolate and flowers; especially yellow roses. She loved crocheting, puzzles, scrabble and loved walks near the water. Jann was known for mentoring many young women. She was creative, witty and had a good listening ear and loved life.

Jann is survived by her children, Jaye Wiegold and husband, Mike, of Herndon, Va., Debbie Frederickson of Holden, and Dave Miller and wife, Julie, of Alburgh, Vt.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; soul sister, Shirley Blake and husband, Robert, of Bucksport; one sister, Barbara Prince of Florida; and special friends, Nancy Winston and husband, Julian, of Florida. She was predeceased by her parents; one daughter, Jan Kimberly Moran; one son-in-law, Tim Frederickson; sister, Helen Emond; one brother, Richard Platt; and sister-in-law, Betty Platt.

The family would like to thank the staff at Jed Prouty for their exceptional love and care for Jann.

Donations may be made in Jann’s name to St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 175 Downeast Highway, Ellsworth, ME 04605. Family and Friends will gather for visitation 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 175 Downeast Highway, Ellsworth.
