MACHIAS, Maine — A Calais man with prior convictions for assault was sentenced Monday to three years in prison for beating his 14-year-old son.
Washington County Superior Court Justice Robert Murray imposed the prison term on Stephen A. Treadway, 32, who was found guilty of felony assault after a jury trial prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Ethan Plaut on Jan. 17.
The assault took place at the victim’s home in September 2013.
Treadway’s defense was that the beating was a case of parental discipline.
The victim did not suffer serious injuries, according to Plaut.
Treadway was sentenced in 2011 to serve three years in prison after he was convicted of criminal threatening, domestic violence, terrorizing, illegal possession of a firearm, endangering the welfare of a child and assault, according to BDN archives.
He also had been sentenced in 2005 to 30 months in prison for assault.
