Mariaville man faces felony domestic assault charge

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — A Hancock County man is facing a felony charge after an apparent domestic assault last week, police said.

Joseph Webber, 46, of Mariaville was arrested around 11 p.m. Jan. 20, according to Bangor police Sgt. Cathy Rumsey.

That night, police were dispatched to a Union Street residence for a reported domestic assault, Rumsey said.

Officer Chris Blanchard knew Webber had an active protection order prohibiting him from contacting the person who called police, Rumsey said. The relationship between Webber and the victim were not disclosed.

Webber was arrested and charged with violation of a protection from abuse order and domestic assault, which was elevated to a felony due to Webber’s prior domestic violence assault convictions.

He was brought to Penobscot County Jail.
