FREEPORT, Maine — A Sunday morning fire on Fernald Road in Freeport destroyed a garage and RV, but spared the nearby home.
Freeport firefighters went just after 8:30 a.m. Sunday to a fire in a detached garage 15 feet from a home at 92 Fernald Road. When crews arrived on scene, they also found an RV camper ablaze about 10 feet from the garage, Freeport Fire Chief Darrel Fournier said Monday.
The fire, which was under control by 9:12 a.m., destroyed the garage and camper, and jumped through a picture window into the home, causing about $8,000 damage to the kitchen, according to Fournier.
The home was insured, he said. Total damage was estimated at $90,000.
The owner of the property, Douglas McIntosh, was at home with his son, who was living in the RV. No injuries were reported and no pets were lost, Fournier said.
The fire, which is under investigation by the state fire marshal, apparently started in the garage.
Freeport fire was assisted on scene by crews from Brunswick, Yarmouth, Pownal and Durham.
