AUGUSTA, Maine — A local man was arrested Friday on charges that he severely injured his 6-month-old daughter last month, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

State and Augusta police arrested Kevin Peaslee, 21, after his indictment earlier in the day by the Kennebec County grand jury. Peaslee is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and was taken to the Kennebec County Jail. He is expected to make his first court appearance early next week.

Investigators say that on Dec. 21, 2013, Peaslee violently shook his daughter Aleah Peaslee, which resulted in multiple injuries to the baby, including severe brain damage and blindness.

The baby remains in serious condition at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
