Bangor police say man refused to stop, had drugs in car

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — A potential minor traffic violation turned into multiple charges for a Bangor man after he didn’t stop for police, who say they later found drugs in his vehicle.

Officer Keith Larby had attempted to stop Gordon Pettway, 30, shortly after midnight on Saturday for a traffic violation, but Pettway did not pull over despite Larby’s lights flashing and sirens blaring, Sgt. Cathy Rumsey said.

Pettway drove two miles at normal speeds before pulling into a driveway on Third Street, the sergeant said.

Pettway was arrested and charged with refusing to stop for a law enforcement officer, operating after his license had been revoked, a Class C felony, and possession of scheduled drugs, the sergeant said.

Marijuana had been found in the vehicle during a search, Rumsey said. Pettway was transported to Penobscot County Jail after his arrest.
