WESTBROOK, Maine — A Westbrook police dog will be receiving a bullet- and stab-protective vest, Capt. Tom Roth said Tuesday.

Roxie will receive the vest thanks to the efforts of Vested Interest in K9s Inc., a Massachusetts nonprofit organization.

Madeline Hamersley, 83, of Sorrento, a former New York police officer, donated $950 to the charity, allowing Roxie to receive the vest, the 11th police dog to receive a vest thanks to a donation from Hamersley.

Roxie is handled by Westbrook police Officer Phil Robinson.
