GREENBUSH, Maine — Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a rash of thefts of Fairpoint Communication telephone line cables.

The latest in a trio of thefts occurred early Tuesday morning, according to Sgt. Roy Peary of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.

Peary said the most recent theft took place in the area between Greenfield Road in Milford and Lower River Road in Greenbush.

“Thieves cut down telephone line cables causing service disruption to the local customer base,” Peary said. “During the theft, the suspects caused thousands of dollars of damage due to the wires needing to be replaced.”

Similar incidents occurred in Greenbush on Dec. 10 and Jan. 6 along the same stretch of road, Peary said.

Police are asking for the public’s help in locating the thieves, and suspect those involved were in the area between 11:30 p.m. Monday and 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Anyone with information should contact the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office at 947-4585 and ask for Peary or Detective William Flagg.
