BANGOR, Maine — A stolen Jeep Liberty that was involved in a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 95 on Sunday afternoon was located later in the day, police said.
Bangor police Sgt. Cathy Rumsey said Monday the damaged vehicle was located parked in a residential area in the city around 4 p.m.
The sergeant did not disclose the exact location where the Jeep was found. No arrests have been made.
The Jeep was subsequently towed to the Bangor police station for processing. Rumsey said no arrests have been made in the case.
“The theft case will be handled by Bangor PD and the hit and run accident is being handled by the Maine State Police,” the sergeant said.
The Jeep had been reported stolen early Sunday afternoon before the crash on the Kenduskeag Stream bridge in the interstate’s southbound lanes. The Jeep struck a van from behind and the driver fled the scene.
