CARIBOU, Maine — The Presque Isle Wildcats recorded 68.9 points to capture the Aroostook League Cheering title Friday night.
The Wildcats edged the Central Aroostook Panthers, who finished second with 63.8 points in the six-team meet. Caribou (60.4) finished third and was followed by Houlton (59.2), Washburn (50.3), and Fort Fairfield (48.4).
Leading Presque Isle were Katelyn Michaud, Kelsie Spooner, Emily Buckley, Madolyn Caron, Mackayla Burbee, Renee Browning, Alexandra Michaud, Kelsey Michaud, Lindsey Lagerstrom, Madison Bagley, Michelle Cawley, and Gabriella Donovan.
Several teams and individuals also received awards: All-Star Tumbling: Colby Endy, Central Aroostook, Sarah Gerritsen, Central Aroostook; All-Star Jump: Hannh MacDonald, Caribou, Colby Endy, Central Aroostook; All-Star Stunt Group: Caribou; Spirit Award: Central Aroostook; Best Team Dance: PIHS; Best Team Tumbling: Caribou; Best Team Motions: PIHS; Best Team Jumps: PIHS; and Best Team Stunts: PIHS.
The teams will be competing in this Saturday’s Eastern Maine regionals at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor with the Class D qualifier for East and West teams set for 9 a.m., followed by Class B East at 12:15 p.m. and Class C East at 3:45 p.m.
The top six teams from Classes B and C and the top eight form Class D will advance to the state finals on Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Augusta Civic Center.
