PORTLAND, Maine — Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a man who robbed two separate CVS stores over the last week, Portland police Assistant Chief Vern Malloch said in a Saturday news release.
“In both robberies the perpetrator presented a threatening note to the clerk and demanded money,” Malloch said. “He fled on foot after receiving an undisclosed amount of cash. Police believe the two robberies are connected. The suspect descriptions and actions are similar in both crimes.”
The robber is described as a 6-foot-tall black man believed to be in his 30s or 40s, the assistant chief said.
The first robbery occurred at about 6:50 p.m. Jan. 12 at the CVS located at the Westgate Shopping Center on Congress Street. The second robbery occurred Friday at about 7 p.m. at the CVS store in the Forest Avenue Plaza, at 449 Forest Ave.
The police department released two photos. One shows the man wearing a black hoodie under a black and white flannel shirt, jeans and tan boots with his hood up and a black cap covering down to his eyes entering the Forest Avenue CVS store.
In the Westgate CVS surveillance image, the robber is wearing a gray sweater, jeans, a baseball cap and sunglasses.
Police believe the man waited outside the store for customers to leave before he entered and committed the robberies, Mallock said.
“No one was injured and no weapon was displayed in either of the robberies,” the assistance chief said.
Those with information about the crimes are asked to call the Portland Police at 874-8575.
