THOMASTON, Maine — A teacher at Thomaston Grammar School is being investigated after being accused of assaulting a student.
The Thomaston Police Department received a complaint two days ago from the parent of a student at Thomaston Grammar School that their child had been physically assaulted by a faculty member, Chief Kevin Haj said Friday. The school serves students in grades five through seven.
The chief said that the parent alleged the child had been assaulted more than once in November. Haj said he understands that the faculty member has been placed on paid administrative leave by the school since the investigation began.
He declined to divulge the nature of the alleged assault or provide more information because the investigation is ongoing. He said Sgt. Tim Hoppe has been interviewing people since the complaint was made.
A message left for Regional School Unit 13 Superintendent Lew Collins was not immediately returned Friday.
