Kenduskeag Plaza parking area to close again Thursday night

The Kenduskeag Plaza was closed Thursday morning after fears of flooding due to an ice backup and rising tides on the Kenduskeag Stream. At least one trial was pushed back at the Penobscot Judicial Center to allow time for people to move their cars.

BANGOR, Maine — The Kenduskeag Plaza parking area downtown will be closed for a second time Thursday, according to the city.

Ice jams in the Kenduskeag Stream prompted Bangor police to shut down the parking lots throughout the morning and early afternoon.

With another high tide looming around 11 p.m., the city has announced the parking lots along the stream — located behind the parking garage and the Penobscot Judicial Center and Camden National Bank — will close this evening.

Motorists parked in the area are being asked to move their vehicles as soon as possible.

The city says the lots likely will remain closed into tomorrow, so people who normally park there should find alternate arrangements.

The parking area closed earlier Thursday morning due to flooding concerns, but it reopened in the afternoon.

Recent rains and warm weather have increased flooding potential.
