HODGDON, Maine — An Amity teen escaped injury Tuesday morning after a single vehicle crash on U.S. Route 1 in Hodgdon.

The accident happened around 2:30 a.m. when a 16-year-old female, whose name was not released, was heading north in her Toyota Camry, according to Chief Deputy Darrell Crandall of the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office.

Crandall said Wednesday that the teen was in the area of the Jackins Settlement Road intersection when the vehicle struck black ice, causing the driver to lose control.

The vehicle left the road, rolled over and caught fire. The driver, who suffered only minor injuries, was able to get out of the car and go to a nearby residence to call for help, the chief deputy said.

Hodgdon Fire Department responded and extinguished the flames, but the vehicle was totaled.
