Drivers taken to hospital after head-on crash in Wiscasset

WISCASSET, Maine — Two men were taken to area hospitals Tuesday after a head-on crash on Bath Road, according to a news release from Police Chief Troy Cline.

The extent of the injuries suffered by Norman Blycher, 81, of Topsham and Ryan Fendler, 87, of Camden was not yet known, according to the release.

Wiscasset police, along with fire and ambulance personnel, went to the area of Naked Leather on Bath Road at about 4 p.m. after a two-car crash was reported. Officer Willy Simmons found a green 2007 Volvo SW, operated by Fendler, and a white 1997 Chrysler Town and Country van, driven by Blycher, had collided head-on.

According to a witness, Blycher was traveling south on Bath Road, also known as Route 1, when his van swerved into the northbound lane, barely missing the witness’ vehicle. The witness said Blycher’s van then struck Fendler’s vehicle.

Bath Road was closed while first responders assisted the motorists and removed the vehicles.
