MDI man gets 90 days for 3 OUIs in 3 nights

ELLSWORTH, Maine — A Southwest Harbor man who was arrested on drunken driving charges three nights in a row last June has been sentenced to serve 90 days in jail.

Todd Burnham Lear, 42, pleaded guilty last month to three charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants and three charges of operating a motor vehicle after suspension, according to his defense attorney, Jeffrey Toothaker of Ellsworth. He also pleaded guilty to one charge of illegal attachment of plates and to another charge of violating bail.

Lear’s driver’s license also was suspended for three years and he was ordered to pay $4,900 in fines, according to documents filed in Hancock County Superior Court in Ellsworth. Lear has prior criminal convictions, one for theft and another for OUI, the court documents indicate. He began serving his jail sentence on Jan. 4.
