BANGOR, Maine — A 22-year-old Grindstone man will serve six years in prison for his role in the brutal attack of a Greenbush woman in a 2012 home invasion, according to a spokeswoman for the Penobscot County district attorney’s office.

Ryan Petrin, 22, pleaded guilty to charges of robbery, burglary, aggravated assault and assault on a child under 6 during a hearing Friday at the Penobscot Judicial Center.

Petrin was sentenced to 12 years in prison, with all but six years suspended, and four years probation on the robbery charge; a four-year sentence to be served concurrently for the aggravated assault charge; a two-year concurrent sentence for the assault on a child under 6; and another two-year concurrent sentence for the burglary charge.

Petrin’s alleged accomplice, 24-year-old Nicholas Hutchinson of Medway, is scheduled for trial next month.

The two were indicted by a Penobscot County grand jury in October 2012, according to Bangor Daily News archives.

Petrin was indicted on one count of robbery, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of assault, while Hutchinson was indicted on the same charges, as well as one count of terrorizing.

The charges stem from a home invasion in Greenbush about 1 a.m. Sept. 3, 2012, in which the two broke into a woman’s home.

The victim and her two children, ages 3 and 5, were asleep when the two men, who were wearing masks, broke in through her son’s bedroom and sprayed her with a fire extinguisher and Mace, then beat her with the extinguisher and a tire iron. The woman told police that the duo demanded money and methadone, according to court documents.

One of the woman’s children suffered minor injuries in the attack.

The woman had nearly $6,000 in cash in her purse inside the trailer from a student loan payment she had recently cashed, court documents said.
