VAN BUREN – Alyre J. Dumont, 89, passed away Jan. 8, 2014, at a Caribou health care facility. He was born Nov. 8, 1924, in Van Buren, son of the late Hubert and Anastasia (Lausier) Dumont.
Alyre was a veteran of World War II, and was at the Normandy Landing in France. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Post No. 49 of Van Buren as well as volunteer fireman in Van Buren. He retired after 22 years of civil service working at Loring Air Force Base as an electrician.
He is survived by four daughters, Carol Cyr of Madawaska, Linda Dumont of Bristol, Conn., Donna Hill of Henderson, Ky., and Vicky Schaeffer of Bristol, Conn.; three sons, John Dumont of Madawaska, Dave Dumont and his wife, Lori, of Brewer, and Mark Dumont of Madawaska; 11 grandchildren, Carla, Cheryl, Mark, Amanda, Jason, Corey, Carrie, Kristen, Derek, Amy, and Crystal; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ernestine Doucette of Van Buren, and Germaine Aldrich of Hartford, Conn. Alyre was predeceased by all five of his brothers.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, at the St. Bruno/St. Remi Church in Van Buren. Family and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday, and 9:30-10:30 a.m. before the service Tuesday, at Lajoie Funeral Home, Inc, 118 High St, Van Buren.
