Alston F. Pond

WEST ENFIELD – Alston F. Pond, beloved husband of Donna Pond, passed away January 5, 2014, at Maine Veterans Home in Bangor. He was born April 23, 1932, in Chester, the son of Daniel and Hannah (Ireland) Pond.
He went to work in the woods early in life and was very proud to have been able to buy his own horse for that work. He loved hunting, fishing and camping with family and friends. He served on the front lines in the Korean War and was honorably discharged. After returning home he worked as a woodsman and jack-of-all-trades.
He is survived by his wife; stepdaughters, Michelle Miller and Lisa Hanscom; stepgrandchildren, James and Anthony. Also surviving are a son, Alston Pond, Jr.; sisters, Ethelder Burleigh and Anita McKinnon and her husband, John; special sister-in-law, Daphine Pond; many nieces and nephews; stepchildren, Rachel Pelkey and her daughters, Heidi and Becky, Sherry Roberts and her daughter, Nicole. He also leaves his rescue dog, Lacey. He was predeceased by brothers, Nelson, Walter and Reginald and his second wife, Betty. The family sends a big thank you to special friends and caregivers, Charlie Savage and Sue Weston.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, January 10, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd., Lincoln, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday.
