Kennebunk police: Five-car accident may have been triggered by elderly driver with medical issue

KENNEBUNK, Maine — No serious injuries were reported Wednesday in an accident that involved five vehicles, according to police.

Kennebunk police Lt. Anthony Bean Burpee said the accident was reported at 10:30 a.m. Dana Scarborough, 83, of Wells was headed northbound on York Street when he experienced an apparent medical issue.

Scarborough struck the vehicle immediately in front of him, which caused a chain reaction of crashes to occur, according to Bean Burpee.

The accident involved Scarborough’s pickup, three other vehicles in motion and one parked vehicle, the lieutenant said.

Scarborough, two other drivers and a passenger of other vehicles whose names were not released were transported to local hospitals for treatment of injuries not considered life threatening, Bean Burpee said.

The accident remains under investigation.
