HOULTON – Janice Marie (Tozer) Nickerson, 73, died peacefully at her home in Sun City Center, Fla., on Dec. 25, 2013. She was born Nov. 13, 1940, in Lyttleton, New Brunswick, Canada, to the late Edward E. and Leva (Somers) Tozer. She was a graduate of Harkins High School and Carleton Memorial Hospital Nursing School.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Ralph “Ted” Nickerson; two sons, Richard and his wife, Linda, of Windham, and Randall and his life partner, Christine Greenwood, of Buxton; a daughter, Robyn Skvorak and her husband, Joseph, of Buxton; sisters, Pauline Ramsey and Margaret McFarland of Miramichi, NB, and Debbie Stewart and her husband, Bev, of Halcomb, NB; brother, Carl Tozer and his wife, Marie, of Surrey, British Columbia; grandchildren, Arianna and Sarah Nickerson, Hattie and Joseph Skvorak; and stepgrandchildren, Morgan and Mitchell Greenwood (wife Kaitlin) of Silverdale, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Edward and infant Rolande.
Jan will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, gentle spirit and strong faith. In addition to spending time with her children and grandchildren, she enjoyed quilting, clogging and spending summers at East Grand Lake. Music was a large part of Jan’s life, especially playing the piano and singing in choirs. Jan was very proud of her Canadian heritage. She was a beloved nurse and worked at Aroostook General Hospital, Madigan Hospital, Houlton Regional Hospital and Madigan Estates, retiring in 2001.
