FRANKFORT – Irving G. Stone, 90, passed away peacefully at a Belfast nursing facility Jan. 4, 2014. He was born June 16, 1923, in Frankfort, the son of Harold and Velma Stone.
Irving worked locally as a longshoreman for 40 years, with 22 years served as the union treasurer. He also worked his chicken farm for 38 years. Finally Irving worked the last 18 years before retirement in construction with his son. He served his community as the Fire Chief of the West Frankfort Fire Department for 14 years.
He is survived by his three children, Roy Stone and wife, Sandy, of Frankfort, Betty York and husband, Jim, of Belfast, and Ruth Ann Brown and special friend, Tuck, of Clinton; grandchildren, Sherry Howard and special friend, Brian, Shawn Stone and wife, Valerie, Adrian Stone and wife, Rebecca, Shannon Moulton and husband, Kevin, Damien Stone, Trish Parker and husband, Randy, Lisa Kelley and special friend, Kelly, Jim York Jr., Jason Brown and wife, Debbie; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth; sister, Lurana Watts; and his parents, Harold and Velma Stone.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m Thursday, Jan. 9, at the West Frankfort Fire Station, 291 Swanville Road, Frankfort, with Pastor Elizabeth Bailey-Mitchell officiating. A reception will be held at the station immediately following the service. Spring interment will be at Pilgrim’s Home Cemetery, Monroe. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West Frankfort Fire Department, 240 Swanville Road, Frankfort, ME 04438.
