Bangor man charged after allegedly assaulting Acadia Recovery client

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — A 56-year old man was behind bars Monday after he was arrested Sunday on multiple charges, police said.

John Toolin of Bangor refused to leave the Acadia Recovery facility on Indiana Avenue shortly before 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Bangor police Sgt. Cathy Rumsey said.

When Officer Jermaine Walker arrived, an allegedly intoxicated Toolin was found near the building’s entrance. Toolin was argumentative with police despite warnings he would be arrested if he didn’t leave, Rumsey said.

After Walker arrested Toolin and charged him with criminal trespass, a visibly upset Acadia Recovery client approached him and said that Toolin had assaulted her 25 minutes before police arrived, Rumsey said.

That investigation led to police charging Toolin with unlawful sexual contact. He remained at Penobscot County Jail Monday.
