ORONO, Maine — A Holden man is facing a burglary charge after allegedly breaking into an ex-girlfriend’s apartment, police said.

Brandon Knowles, 24, remained at Penobscot County Jail on Friday after his Dec. 27 arrest, Orono Police Chief Josh Ewing said.

Shortly before noon that day, the woman called police after she learned that Knowles was in her apartment, and he somehow had procured keys to the residence, the chief said.

“He had no reason to be there and no right to be there,” Ewing said.

When police arrived, fresh tracks in the snow were found in the apartment’s rear entrance, and Knowles was found walking in a hallway.

He was arrested without incident, and charges of theft and criminal trespass could be pursued as well, Ewing said.
