Willard E. Crosby

BREWER – Willard E. Crosby, 86, passed away Dec. 31, 2013 at a Bangor health care center after a long illness. He was born Aug. 14, 1926, in Portland, the son of Roland Stanley Crosby and Jessie (Cochran) Crosby later of Eddington.

As a young man, he learned the electrical trade from his father and learned the workings of submarines in the Portsmouth, New Hampshire Naval Yard. Willard entered the Navy in 1944 and served in Japan on the U.S.S. St. Paul. He was honorably discharged in 1946 as Fireman 1st Class. He married Shirley Constance Russell in 1947 and together they had eight children. Willard started and ran his own business, Crosby’s Electric, as a Master Electrician and taught the trade to two of his sons. Willard also enjoyed country music.

He is survived by Shirley, his devoted wife of 67 years; five children, Willard E. Crosby, II and his wife, Loretta, Steve A. Crosby and his wife, Kelly, Michael W. Crosby and his wife, Carolyn, Robert W. Crosby and Beverly A. Sawyer and her husband, Leland Sawyer; a sister Ruth Gagnon of New Hampshire. He will be especially missed by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a special friend Helen Jenkins and a former daughter-in-law, Ambie Crosby. He was predeceased by an infant son in 1948 and by two other sons, Scott A. Crosby in 1973 and Ronald M. Crosby in 2006 and by two sisters, Virginia and Bernice.

Willard’s family will have a private service at a later date.
