BANGOR, Maine — A Hampden man was taken to the hospital Monday night after he lost control of his vehicle and struck a railroad bridge, police said.
Marcelo Caldas, 38, was headed west on Main Street around 8:15 p.m. when the accident occurred, Bangor police Sgt. Cathy Rumsey said.
Rumsey said Caldas’ vehicle appeared to have crossed the center line, went back into the westbound lane and hit the railroad bridge.
No other vehicles were struck, the sergeant said.
Caldas was brought to Eastern Maine Medical Center for treatment of neck and facial injuries, Rumsey said. His vehicle was heavily damaged but not totaled.
Police are investigating the accident further and say alcohol appears to have been a factor.
