BANGOR, Maine — Two hours after putting out a request and surveillance video seeking the public’s help in identifying a burglary suspect, Bangor police asked the media to take down the video.

Sgt. Cathy Rumsey said the alleged burglary occurred at a Bangor residence in the early morning hours of Dec. 22.

Police released video images of the suspect approaching the victim’s house.

Police did not disclose if the burglar got away with anything.

In her request to retract the video, Rumsey said police believed they had identified the person in the pictures. She said it is possible the person was not connected to the burglary, “so we would rather not present him to the public in that light until we know for sure.”

The Bangor Daily News complied with the request.

Anyone with information about the burglary should call Bangor police Detective Brian Smith at 947-7384, ext. 5764. The department’s tip line can be used by pressing ext. 6.
