Eastern Maine Camera Club

BANGOR — The Eastern Maine Camera Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, at the Bangor Parks and Recreation building, 647 Main St.

Guest speaker will be Patrick Downey, and art landscape photographer from Ellsworth, who has both a regional and international reputation as a photographer. He has received multiple awards for his work and publication in national magazines, including Outdoor Photographer Magazine. His background of working and living in the woods and along coastlines of Maine is evident in all his work.

‘Princess Ida’

BANGOR — The Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Maine will perform the 1884 opera “Princess Ida, or Castle Adamant” at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Bangor Opera House, home of the Penobscot Theatre, 131 Main St.

Arts collaboration

BREWER — The Union, a collaboration of music, art and poetry, was designed to bring together the best of a wide array of Bangor area artists and musicians for a show at 7 p.m. Friday,  Jan. 3, at Next Generation Theatre, 39 Center St.

Bands will play while artists paint on large canvasses on stage at the same time. The idea is to bring together different talents to inspire one another’s work.The show will feature Maine bands Rotating Taps, Forget Forget and Worried Well, and artists Courtney Hutchinson, Krystin Noyes, Brian Monahan and Carlie Deshane.
