Hilda M. Townsend

NEWPORT – Hilda M. Townsend, 90, went home to be with the Lord, December 26, 2013, at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born June 5, 1923 in Blaine, a daughter of Lee and Cassie (Garrison) Gustin.

On September 21, 1940, she married Arthur Townsend, her life long companion of 58 years. She was employed for many years at the Dexter Shoe Company. Hilda was a member of the Jubilee Family Worship Center in Newport, where she was always active in her church teaching Sunday School or helping with any work where she was needed. She will be remembered for her faithfulness to her Lord and her church.

She is survived by a son, Carter Townsend of Biddeford; a sister, Genevieve and husband, Richard Emery of Detroit; 3 granddaughters, Cynthia Townsend of Charleston, Loriann Lawler of Corinth, and Davina Townsend of Columbus, OH; 5 great grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend and neighbor, Grace Chambers. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur in 1998; 2 brothers, Harrison and Gerald Gustin; and 2 sisters, Alma Cowan and Lillian Adair.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Jubilee Family Worship Center, Elm Street, Newport, where funeral services will be held 10 AM Tuesday, December 31st.
