PORTLAND, Maine — As thousands travel through the night on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, the Maine Turnpike Authority is encouraging drivers to make stops to rest and stay alert.

From 10 p.m. Christmas Eve to 5 a.m. Christmas Day, and repeating the same hours a week later on New Year’s Eve, the turnpike authority will be handing out complimentary coffee at all five service plazas, according to a press release.

The five service plazas are located off the Mile 102 exit in Gardiner and on the north- and southbound lanes on Mile 25 in Kennebunk and on Mile 58 in Gray.

Maine State Police troopers will also be patrolling the turnpike both nights to ensure safe driving and help stranded motorists.
