HAMPDEN, Maine — Police are searching for a man who held up a local hotel at knifepoint early Friday morning.

Hampden police Officer Joel Small said the robber threatened a clerk at the Best Western Whitehouse Inn with a knife shortly before 3 a.m. and demanded cash.

No note was involved in the robbery, Small said.

“The thing that is concerning about this robbery is that it was a true strong-arm robbery,” the officer said.

The clerk was unharmed and the robber got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to Small.

A Hampden police canine unit attempted to track the suspect, but he was not located.

The robber is a slender white male, 5 feet, 7 inches tall weighing about 180 pounds. Small said he was wearing a white or cream sweatshirt with the hood up, and some sort of mask over his nose, mouth and chin.

He was also wearing blue jeans and white sneakers, Small said.

Anyone with information on the robbery should call Hampden police at 862-4000.
