ST. FRANCIS, Maine — Slippery road conditions caused a crash here Wednesday that knocked out power to area residents for a short while.
Shawn Fletcher, 24, of St. Francis was northbound on Route 161 shortly after 9 a.m. when he lost control on an icy patch and skidded off the road, striking a snowbank and then a utility pole, Maine State Police Sgt. Brian Harris said in a press release.
The impact dislodged a wire from the utility pole, causing it to hang over the roadway. Not long after, a tractor-trailer operated by Rudy Rioux, 43, of Fort Kent struck the low-hanging wire, pulling down more wires and breaking the utility pole.
That caused a power outage at residences in the area for a short time until utility companies could replace the pole and fix the wires, according to Harris.
Fletcher was transported to Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent for treatment of possible minor injuries, the sergeant reported.
Rioux’s truck did not sustain any damages and Fletcher’s vehicle sustained minor damage.
Trooper Chris Cyr investigated the accident.
